So, the mastodon-server I am using wants me to use content warnings if I post something about covid-19. The cross post-bot from micro.blog doesn’t let me do it. So I will have to leave the server or at least won’t use it anymore for posting. Well. Bye Mastodon.
@nielsk My understanding is that servers can decide the rules which their users have to comply with. If not agreeing, one can use a different server or run an own server (which might be to much work for you to justify the benefits). So still more freedom than twitter, but you might have to run your own server (and then still others can choose to ignore you, but that's not different from real world).
@globalc I won’t run my own server. And yes, servers can decide for their own rules. I won’t run my own because that is more work than I want to do. Thus I’d rather give up on mastodon than searching for a new server, moving my account again etc.I thought giving up on micro-blogging/blogging completely. So this might be a first step.
@nielsk Fair enough. Hosting an own webpage, you decide on the rules of the content, much like in running an own mastodon server (but one might mean less work than the other, and webpages might be easier to reach for people).
