I'd really like some opinions on this, I'm new here and would like advise on connecting to the #fediverse. I'm on a Macbook Pro and I've installed #whalebird from my app store. There were others in the app store but whalebird was free. I don't really like it but it does let me connect my other nod accounts, which so far has only been #funkywhale. Was that the right way to say that, other nods? Also, I thought since linuxrocks.online was the first place I signed up, i used that everywhere?

@johnharvey237
Mission accomplished - you're connected.

You can also just use the website by going to linuxrock.online.

A 'node' here is often called an 'instance', if I'm reading you right. And yes, you can use linuxrocks.online to connect to almost anyone else on Mastodon, but not every instance connects with every other instance.

@malin
Thank you, how do I log in to other instenses? I was doing something wrong.

@johnharvey237 it works like email. You can send from gmail to yahoo but you can use the gmail account to sign into yahoo.

Most people just pick one instance but you can sign up for different ones if you like, since they all have a different crowd.

This one is for tech-talk. Mastodon.social is more general. Others are made to be isolated from biggotry. Others are for porn.

Each instance should have a description about what it does so you can pick one that suits you.

@malin
Thank you. I went to mastodon social and tried to sign in. I would accept my log in so created a profile there. There are servers with adult content? I need to check that out.
@johnharvey237 whatever you want, there's probably an instance for it.
Welcome to federation.
