Would it be doable to transform tutanota into a decentralised service, such that a single blocked instance (here tutanota.com) doesn't render the whole service void? Or to what degree is using VPN or tor equivalent to such a solution or maybe even superior?

@Tutanota @chris, it is still email so options are limited by architecture. Gaining user access is no problem (VPN, Tor, proxies...) but communications with other email servers located in Russia are likely to fail which render the email service far less useful for Russian users.

Also Tutanota is not alone here as Protonmail and Startmail (similar services) were also blocked by state censorship earlier. This is sad and is another reminder for the world why information freedom and privacy are so important and so fragile. If someone told me ten years ago they would block Internet services here, I wouldn't believe them.

@Tutanota @g, yes, this too. I doubt they will be able to prevent censorship circumvention as it would require to break Internet access too much but they will remain pain in the butt.
