I know it's #lazyweb but can anyone recommend any good, preferably #foss, #Win10 #antivirus and/or #antimalware programs that aren't Windows Defender? I had Avast running on my wife's desktop but apparently it turned out to be terrible spyware. Cf., inter alia, https://mashable.com/article/avast-free-antivirus-spyware/

I remember Linux used to have F-Prot, but I don't know of anything similar on Windows. I need to get Spybot installed for her for anti-malware, but can't think of a good AV program. Thank you!

@greyor not FOSS, and not even gratis, but I've been a satisfied customer of #ESET's #NOD32 for close to (or maybe even over) a decade now.

At the time I started using it, it consistently ranked at the top, though based on #PCMag's #2019 review (https://uk.pcmag.com/antivirus/36405/eset-nod32-antivirus) it might be lagging behind on the competition.

It's affordable though, and hasn't been getting in my way like other #antiVirus scanners I've used previously.
