Awo0bzd! #Introduction

I'm also @omni, my previous introduction - https://freeradical.zone/@omni/99362778900375272

Decided to join here too, since I'm having a lot of #BSD on my mind. Not least due to my latest project of abandoning #QubesOS in favor of #HardenedBSD, convinced that the latter is a better choice for me and won't get in the way as much.

I'll probably toot about #zfs, #jails, #vnet, #pf, #sway and am #bhyve and #CloudABI curious .

No strong opinoins about licences other than that source should be open.

Alright, fine, #introduction time. I'm - a systems nerd, I run #OpenBSD, #FreeBSD, #OpenWRT, #Alpine, #Debian & #Void (have run/touched many others), - a tech & #DIY geek in general, #soldering, #sewing etc... - a music junkie & a #raver, I dance to #jungle, #dnb, #techno & #steppers dub, but have love for so much more, - an #anarchist & a #pirate ("sharing is caring"), - really hyped about this #fediverse & thank you @tek for running this instance & all the other admins for running theirs!

A comment on that project to abandon #QubesOS in favor of #HardenedBSD, I didn't use that system much since I couldn't lock the screen in #Sway w/ swaylock (OpenPAM and Linux PAM are different). Could probably have built swaylock w/o PAM support and setuid swaylock, but it didn't feel right so I stuck my head into puzzling authentication methods and later gave up.

@omni
I went back to using #QubesOS, installed 4.x and had in some ways a better UX than w/ previous releases, but recently fell victim to their LVM thin provisioning experiment. Dom0 (or any important data for that matter) on a thin volume, #WTF?

I spent a few days, trying to motivate myself to wrap my head around that and thin-provisioning-tools, eventually got help from a friend and managed to salvage the most important data I had no backup of.

I am now running #AlpineLinux /w #ZFS & #Sway.

@omni
The alpine project sure has been making some good choices

@uuim
Yes, #AlpineLinux is my favourite Linux distro since a couple of years.

Since it makes heavy use of #busybox, I'm curious to try and replace that with the interesting effort #rustybox. #RiiR

@omni
there's a rustybox now!? I can't keep up with you kids!  :flan_shakefist:

@uuim
Well, #rustybox is just a couple of months old and I got word of it just a few days ago.

"It started out life as a direct #c2rust transpile of the #busybox project, and has been steadily improving since then."
