A RSS leader, on the other hand, backed the appointment of Khan. Dev Pujari, the RSS national organisation secretary, urged the BHU students to withdraw their protests, remarking that anybody can learn, speak and teach Sanskrit. Unfazed, the protesting students said that the statement of RSS has no bearing on them.

@shinjini I remember what Gandhi once said about Sanatan Dharma in one of the last prayer meetings that he held. He said, "people are writing letters to me saying that I am a Muslim and I support Jinnah. They even shower me with abuses that I can't repeat here. To them my answer is that I am a Sanatani Hindu and that the reason I have no issues with any faith or religion. I am a Sanatani Hindu, that's why I am a Muslim, I am a Christian, I am a Buddhist and I am a Sikh."
