Alauddin Khilji thought of himself as the second Alexander - Sikander e Sani.
He wanted to perpetuate his memory with a tower four times the size of the Qutub Minar....
But as Robert Burns said
“The best laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft a-gley"
( often go awry)
So all we have is an unfinished minar...

@ranasafvi He definitely deserves a monument. He was a great reformer of his time—social, revenue, military and administrative—many of which formed the bedrock of Muslim administration till 1857.

@ashwin_baindur @audreytruschke the Alai Darwaza is a magnificent monument
@ranasafvi look at me ye mighty, and despair
@ranasafvi What so amazes me about Alai Minar is that since it was left incomplete from the times of Alauddin Khilji, no one ever thought of bringing it down.
@kinshuksunil @ranasafvi Some monument are kept as it is the pride of the people while other monuments are left alone to serve as a warning sign. A constant reminder.
@kinshuksunil @ranasafvi...shhh! someone might hear you and take it to heart 😜
@KayKap ha ha ha 😂 I really doubt that.
