It might take a little time to get adjusted here but keep looking for more people to follow who align with your interests (it's all too easy here, practically everyone is interesting!) and keep tooting! There are thousands of instances out there (think of them like different email servers), it doesn't really matter which one you belong to since you can follow people from other instances too.
