The fact that it is built on #ActivityPub empowers it with just so much more potential.
Because now literally anyone can start building software that is compatible with it.
And even if you don't want to build something new, you can just tweak the existing tool to fit your needs. For example - I've come across a #mastodon instance that allows 65'000 characters in one single post!

It's the wrong question. The technical side is not really relevant.
The real question is: are people ready and able to create consistently quality content on #mastodon? Will they talk to their friends and families and invite them here? Will the community as a whole continue to be supportive and caring?
We are the only ones who can control those parameters.
