I signed up for a hosting deal with #CloudAtCost, on the understanding that I can pay once, and use it for life, with no further costs. Now they're telling me they've started charging a $9 "maintenance fee" every year, for all accounts, and that I have to start paying this. Surely this isn't legal? Any other CaC customers out there dealing with this?

probably not legal. I'd demand a refund & if they refuse then sue them for $900 (or $9 for however many years you expect to live).

btw, https://www.exoscale.com/ might be worth a look. Price is higher but probably without shenanigans.

@resist1984 I only signed up because it seemed useful to have access to testing servers that don't cost me anything beyong the initial sign-up. $9 a year is still a pretty good deal, but the thing is, if they can add this fee, what other fees can they arbitrarily add later? For production servers I'd probably use #CatalystCloud back home.
