My Mastodon experiment begins now.

Till Monday morning, I'm off Twitter and will be using Mastodon instead. Let's see how this goes!

If it goes well, I don't mind having a 2 day/week Mastodon only rule.

The thing with Birdsite is that I've put in a lot of effort on that platform and gained some following. Took years to do it.

Now, it's really hard to just let go of it all and move to another platform to do it all over again. Frankly, it's a bit terrifying.

Also goes to show how much I've started to depend on Birdsite. Sigh.

But, I have learnt my lesson: Never EVER entangle your professional life with a platform that you have no control over.

I often ask myself how it has come to a point where my self-worth is defined by Birdsite. Well, here we are.

Maybe I'll be able to extract myself, maybe not. We shall see.

@Memeghnad
Why think that way?
We use what's available, right ?
The you is the same.
People will follow, bcoz the content comes from you.
So... Keep at it.
👍👍
@Memeghnad yeah. Giving so much control to a platform over one's life is dangerous. May be a good detoxification for all us.
@naukarshah @Memeghnad I'm so happy people are wanting control of their digital lives and rights.
This should have be the norm from the get go but I guess we only learn from bad experiences and time.
Diaspora should be promoted alongside for the facebook crowd.

The other option is mewe. Tim Berners Lee sits in the board and seem quite interesting.
MeWe: The best chat & group app with privacy you trust.

Brilliant features with no BS. No Ads. No Spyware. MeWe is the Next-Gen Social Network.

@naukarshah @Memeghnad exactly. I realise I used to end my days upset with the sheer venom on 'bird-shite'. I am actually feeling a lot more peacefull today.
@Memeghnad I second you ... It's depressing! Such an influence in our personal life!
@Memeghnad hence self hosted blogs. That’s the only medium where you are the owner. I have been screaming this since forever. Any social media platform including this is someone else’s property

@richa_singh @Memeghnad

Can't run your own server, can you? For most people?

So "self hosted blogs" how?

@bharatvarma @Memeghnad self hosted blogs like websites. Say you take up space at go daddy etc and host your site on them. This way you own (or rather rent) a portion of the server and you build your own site/property there.
