hey, women/trans folk/people who wear makeup: got any makeup tips for a girl who knows fuck-all about makeup beyond putting on lipstick and eyeliner? How does one properly use concealer/foundation? what is "contouring?" how does eyeshadow work?
@jacethechicken if you’ve got oily skin then primers are your friend (both face and eyelid primers)

@jacethechicken

early transition a good concealer was the only thing i spent good money on. it really wasnt worth it for me to struggle with using anything else as nothing else covered my heavy blue shadow lol

@jacethechicken

to start, you ofc wanna wash ur face to make sure u dont trap dirt and other stuff to your skin with the layer of makeup which can lead to acne etc. then u want to use concealer on areas that need it, different colors can even be used underneath a foundation or matching color concealer for heavy shadow color even when fully shaved. otherwise, you just do a thin layer of foundation over the face to give it an even set color and then add blush, eyeshadow, etc.

@jacethechicken

contouring is how you make attention get drawn to yer bones like ur cheekbones can have a darker 'contour' or makeup foundation line in a darker color along the cheek bone to make it look more pronounced. not always needed and not something everyone will even do.

as for eyeshadow i cant do that at all i am making that my summer goal, to learn eyeshadow because all i care about makeup-wise is eyes now and i wont touch them because of my dinnerplate glasses :3c

I never had any need for makeup, but this thread was fascinating. First, I was heartbroken because as a person raised as a traditional male, there likely isn't any reason you'd have gotten to learn make-up. Then, my heart was lifted because immediately the Internet did what I know the internet is truly good for: Someone else with the same problem heard the plea for help and dove in head first to help.

Thanks for making the internet a good place.

heck im crying on a wednesday. i know a lot of specific not overall super great things but if the random bits of info i know can help someone im super heckin excited to save someone else the trouble of needing to go through the same things i did if they werent fun lol

@jacethechicken
In my experience just throw on concealer everywhere that there's a crease of darkening (under the eyes, on the laugh lines, under the nose, etc) and sponge/rub it in.
Optionally throw on some photo finish under that for smoothing. Makes you look like your features got blurred and photoshopped, it's really neat.
That's all I wear.
@jacethechicken
Oh, also, use moisturizers and masks. Half of your face looking good is just already being radiant and smooth from the skincare 🙂
@jacethechicken foundation is used as like a base layer to smooth out skin tone; i use a bb cream instead for the same reason
@jacethechicken
I literally do other people's make-up as a job sometimes so feel free to DM me!! You can pics as well and I can map where to apply contour and such if you like x
@jacethechicken i would recommend setting up an appointment with Sephora for them to do your makeup. if you spend $50 they are free. i asked them to show me how to do everything and they were happy to. this was like 2 weeks after coming out for me and they were very affirming
