I still think I should put an estimated total number of users on joinmastodon.org just to counteract the fact that now the top servers all say stuff like "1k people" and "4k people", but I have no clue where, visually, to put something like "total number of users who you can reach: approx. 1.7 million" (or something to that effect)
@Gargron maybe "total federated users" right below the total instance users? like
-stable
-1k users
-connected to a community of 1.7M users ?

@pbandkate @Gargron it would be interesting to see this stat included on the /about/more page tbh -- there used to be a z-number for connected instances ("home to x users who authored y statuses; connected to z instances")

just a simple count of how many users are in the local db should be pretty simple to expose

@Gargron I'm not totally sure either but maybe in the "Find your community" part?

here

@Gargron
Maybe start be just mentioning it at the same time as you mention the number of instances?
@Gargron well I find it usefull maybe as a phrase on the site, but it would be really interesting to have it in each instance landing page too
@Gargron
It would probably fit really well on the intro blurb. "Follow friends and discover new ones (insert number here)."
