Watching Pocahontas with the kids.
With commentary. 😈
I already told them about how she was kidnapped and ultimately died. They’re pissed.
“Oh, so they’re gonna make John Smith save a guy from drowning so we like him?”

Wait. The Tsenacommacah spoke Algonquin??
I can almost understand them.
...If the accents weren’t so awful.
Oh, so only the bad white people have English accents? Fascinating.
I like how much the raccoon follows the Nanabush trickster archetype from Algonquin legends.
“They’re speaking with their eye-language.”

John Smith is complaining about Native words... and he’s supposed to be experienced with “savages”?

So John Smith is archetypal mediocre white man?

I’m liking the anti-colonialist bent the movie has, but falls short.
I still love Colours of The Wind. 😭
John Smith does a lot of physically restraining of Pocahontas and it’s played off as romantic passion. 😒

So John Smith turns full anti-racist because he falls I love?

THIS DOES NOT WORK.

DON’T FALL IN LOVE WITH WHITE BOYS AND HOPE THEY EVENTUALLY BECOME ANTI-RACISTS.

The hummingbird is the only character with any sense in this movie.
So. Pocahontas falls in love with John Smith and suddenly all white people are cool? 😒

Like. The white people literally shot and killed one of the Tsenacommacah warriors.

Disney apparently was cool with this, and now Pocahontas is? This is some bull.

John Smith goes to warm Pocahontas of the impending attack.

And he listens to Native women (the grandmother tree).

Ok. Points for him. But will he actually put his life on the line?

Pocahontas being sadder about John Smith about to be executed than about Kocoum being killed is some bull.
The false equivalency in the Savages song is real #AllLivesMatter-ish.
Oh. Right. So the brown people have to make the call for peace and apologize for war... DESPITE NOT BEING THE AGGRESSORS. 😒

So. Two Native warriors died. And Powhatan tells John Smith he’s always welcome.

Nahhhh.

I feel like there are more missing scenes in this movie than any other Disney movie I’ve seen.
