Prepping for my first session as a DM. What are your favorite bits of advice for DM newbies? 😁
@benbrandt Always be willing to go with the flow. Players can sometimes take the adventure on new tangents. However, I try my best to give them enticing opportunities back to what I had planned. If they take it, I feel justified.
@caranmegil ooh good reminder and idea! Thanks!
@benbrandt The most important thing is to have fun and make sure your players are having fun. If that means bending rules or even throwing them out the window don't hesitate! Defenestrate those rules!~
@artisticfennec thanks! That's a good reminder!
@benbrandt As someone who constantly defenestrates rules I'm an expert in it!~ 😂

@benbrandt
Don't prep too much. The more you do, the more you are tempted to stick to it at all cost.

Prep light, go with the flow and abandon your plans when they go against fun.

@tomo that's good advice. Since I'm new, and it's fun, I think my inclination is to over prep, but I will definitely be mindful of this!
@benbrandt Improv, riff, feel free to change the adventure if the group is too challenged or not challenged enough. And, follow the rule so many villains forget: never monologue. ;)
