the new gmail web interface is slow as bonkers, another one of those web applications that gets heavier and unwieldier with every release

happy i mostly only use gmail through mutt

@orionwl I think there is a way to go back to the "classic HTML only" on https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/h/1pq68r75kzvdr/?v%3Dlui
Gmail

Gmail ist ein intuitiver, effizienter und nützlicher E-Mail-Dienst mit 15 GB Speicherplatz, weniger Spam und mobilem Zugriff

@NicolasDorier @orionwl click the wheel icon and then the first option, something like "use old Gmail". Or even better switch to #ProtonMail or #Tutanota who both use encryption by default and does not sell your soul ;)
@surfrndk @NicolasDorier I have protonmail, but don't use it for everything—the problem is that I haven't yet figured out how to use it with mutt, so I'm forced to used it from either the browser or my phone
with gmail I don't have to use the website except in rare cases
@orionwl @NicolasDorier I see. I usually use my phone.... New project added to the list ;)

@orionwl

I think it's fundamentally impossible. They never give direct access to your private keys, neither do they allow you to use your own. Quite unfortunate, it's a good service except for a few hiccups like these.

@surfrndk @NicolasDorier

@Crypt0Physicist @surfrndk @NicolasDorier they did think of that… there's a "protonmail bridge" that runs locally and exposes IMAP
the version for Linux is in beta, though
haven't got around to trying it out
