so how long until we see bots designed to attack Mastodon instances and force defederation with anonymous abuse reports, do you think?
@frankiesaxx Sad thought, but it won't be long.

@frankiesaxx
So, even if they use a bot, one could simply limit the ammount of complaints to 5 a day or so (let's say by IP address beacuse they're anonymous).

If anyone has more complaints than that there is obviously something bigger going on and one should contacr the admin direct

@romanSix that doesn't solve the problem of leaving an admin with only the choice to either defederate the server the abuse is coming from or to simply put up with the bullshit waste of time though :/
@frankiesaxx
I thought the general Idea was, if another instance does not cooperate, to block the whole instance. This way admins have a big interest in cooperating with each other.
@frankiesaxx
In a similar way we do the same thing with email. If I recieve a lot of spam from a particular server and the admin doesn't react to my complaints this host gets blacklisted.
@romanSix that's exactly my point. Individuals can use anonymous abuse reporting to spam other servers and ultimately force them to defederate.
@romanSix I don't think @Gargron intended either suspension or abuse handling tools to be used to coerce admins of other servers
@romanSix ah, I think I misunderstood that post a little bit. Yes, I agree that defederation is an appropriate tool to handle hostile or poorly run servers. I don't think that's coercion though.
@romanSix There's no way in the admin interface to set a limit on reports from another server. It does seem like reports always go to the local though, so the local admin would know who's doing it, which means if they don't support the activity, it's pretty simple for the admin of the server getting the reports to contact the admins of the servers sending them. A well designed campaign would probably use a lot of bots on a lot of servers, making it really time consuming to talk to them all.
