Also, the post states that they were nasty to dot social mods. That's not fair, these are volunteers donating their time and energy.

@MatejLach @streetvalkyrie @MarkWarner @DickButt4Prez I think the heart of the issue is that a bofa mod had taken the position on behalf of that instance that harassment was condoned. There is no other remedy but to act as if harassment will continue to be condoned by that instance.

Bad people claim harassment all the time. Does @Gargron have a good definition for what his instance considers harassment somewhere?

yesterday i received reports about two of our users taking an exceptionally nasty tone with wil and dot social's mods. i took the position then that, because these users were trans women, i was not going to prevent them from expressing their anger at him nor the mods there for backing him. the consequence of that is that we have been silenced on dot social. i have no regrets about taking that position. i just hope that now that wil is gone, and a few days pass, we'll be given another chance.

If that's the behavior they want on their instance they can have it, but I think it would be advisable for other instances to protect themselves from that kind of sanctioned harassment.

Sometimes what people call harassment is good and righteous. Tolerance and civility are cowards’ virtues.

Look, mastodon.socialβ€”heck just about every instanceβ€”needs a better harassment policy, something in the direction of what the #bofa admin tweeted earlier (see link in a previous post). β€œPlay nice” and β€œbe civil” are the inches that white supremacists and other bad elements turn into miles. Eugen needs to get on it.

On the topic of harassment; it was really cringy to see loads of reports being lobbed as ammo all because a mod made a call that 9/10 mods would have also made.

And let's not pretend the CM wasn't being harassed WHILE dealing with the death of a close relative---super not cool.
