Mastodon is good bc we all immediately pounced on news of McCain dying with our traditional Twitter bloodthirst then like ten minutes later toned it down a notch bc it kinda didn't fit the vibe here
Like yeah he was a garbage fire of a human being but "IM THRILLED HES DEAD" ain't exactly a hill I'm gonna go out of my way to die on ya feel me chief
@DayGloChainsaw the way see it, you can be relieved and even happy someone who was garbage and dangerous is dead but obsessing about the death and going out of your way to celebrate it is a pretty creepy thing to do regardless of who it is imho
@Pauldron @DayGloChainsaw all of the uk had a fuckin party when margaret thatcher died. nations have holidays for the deaths of some people. this is human nature.
@vaporwavewitch @Pauldron ok yeah but most of those holidays are like, centuries old and date back to a time when a public execution was a fine family outing. Imma side with Paul on this one. Past a certain point it's just not useful to really keep harping on it.
@DayGloChainsaw @Pauldron making a point to make even one joke on the subject is actually going out of your way to celebrate.
@DayGloChainsaw @Pauldron the sooner yall accept that humans are shitty the easier life is to navigate
@vaporwavewitch @Pauldron Yves I know you're like the resident cynic but you will never convince me that humans aren't Good Actually
@DayGloChainsaw @Pauldron i never said we were inherently shitty. i said we are shitty. you can be good and do shitty things, and it is in many cases second nature to. I will always argue humans are born good but that isnt my point.
@vaporwavewitch @Pauldron I just think how shitty people are has a lot to do with the conditions they're in, but when you look at the long, long, 6000 year arc of history, things are trending up and people are becoming less shitty.
@vaporwavewitch @Pauldron idk, I don't have any real organized thoughts on the matter to be honest I kinda just have the same blind optimism which guides me through life

@vaporwavewitch @DayGloChainsaw oh yeah, i don't mean to say people can't be happy about someone's death, that's perfectly natural.

I mostly mean people who see the death itself as a huge triumph as if it's not something that happens to everyone, the thing worth celebrating is the fact that the problematic person can't cause harm anymore and not necessarily the fact they died imo

@DayGloChainsaw
having an almost entirely linear timeline and no quote RTing really helps cut down the days and days of forced drama
@DayGloChainsaw my bloodthirst for warcriminals will not be sated! But I will use content warnings, sorry folks.
