@Pixley wow this is really cool!!
@katewitko thanks!! This is how books get onto the Internet Archive, humans scan them at stations like this.
@Pixley seriously i keep finding new things in your pic that look so fascinating, thank you for sharing this!
@katewitko ahhh you're so welcome!! If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them, otherwise I'll just say that I complain about my job a lot but I really do believe in what we're doing with my whole heart
@Pixley how do you get into a job like that? on some level i knew it must exist but i never really thought about it!
@katewitko we have satellite scanning centers all over the place, at universities, libraries, museums, etc. They're entry-level jobs, no degree required, just a comfort with mind-numbingly repetitive, detail-oriented activity (our goal is 800 pages scanned per hour), so my experience shelving books at a library came in handy.
@Pixley oh boy do i ever have experience with that kinda work. i'm a digital marketing specialist but really my job is just copy/pasting all day and making sure everything's in the right spot and functional
@katewitko Oh, my brain would be very happy doing that, I actually love repetitive, detail-obsessive work and not talking to anyone!
@Pixley i get a little lonely sometimes because everyone is very busy but it's nice on Thursdays and Fridays (my hardcore busy days) because i throw headphones in and no one bothers me :)
