#introduction

Like others, I moved here from mastodon.social to get a smaller more writing orientated community and a server that responds quicker than a sloth on diazepam.

I've been a struggling writer for many years, hoping now to actually finish some works and get them out there while there are still some readers left in the world.

@richmadam At the risk of being glib, the trick to finishing something is to remember that you're writing a shitty first - or even 0th - draft. It's not finished. No-one is going to see it. It's not _supposed_ to be good. It's more like a detailed synopsis, and it's going to suck.

Then you edit the hell out of it, and again, you're not writing a work, you're editing a draft. Then you're polishing a draft. Eventually, without ever actually doing it at any one time, you've written something.

@Ghostwoods My problem is that I have countless shitty firsts. I get new ideas before I've gone away with the last. Discipline seems to be lacking. I'd really love to focus on one story and get it done, but I suffer from a poor attention span.

Hopping from one project to another or running in circles flapping my arms and wailing. Not knowing what project needs my focus next.

I hear tell of this "Ritalin". Is it any good? Should I steal some from a child?

@richmadam Yeah, that's a popular tool in the subconscious's arsenal :(
