cj 🇺🇸🇨🇭Learning German as an English speaker is hard because sometimes I can't what is going on in a sentence until the last word understand.
sn0w@cj One thing that always interested me: How hard is it for people like you who learn the language to build and/or understand our weird compound words?
@sn0w Vocabulary is a real struggle. Compound words are something I stay away from or just give up reading for now, since I'm like a 4 year old's vocab level.
Even with something simple like "Hochzeit" I didn't get right when I first heard it. There's an idiom in English like "It's high time for the queen and her reign". Which in German would make no sense since it would sound like "It's a wedding for the queen and her reign".
