Morning word wrangling! #writer #wordwrangler #mechs #writer

Former coworker texted me a close-cropped pic of a document outline with numbered headings, and one of those numbers was yellow. "Hallllllppppp," she wrote. "Why is one freaking number highlighted?!? Nothing else is!!"

There's a lot about Word that I still don't know, but I always feel good when I can help fix weird problems like these without needing to look up the answer first. 🤠

It does give me pause, though, because so much "software" these days is really just an app that only lets you do a prescribed set of actions, and doesn't encourage deeper understanding of its workings. The idea that you'd have to know things like how Word stores formatting? It's no wonder people think Word has a mind of its own...

(And then you tell them that anything you can do with a mouse click, you can do programmatically... mind blown, man!)

#TalesFromTheHomeOffice - Today I have to give an Intro to the #WordWrangler presentation to the new folks on our team. I'm going to completely ad-lib it because I'm not at all prepared. Not that I haven't been thinking about it, but I'm really not sure what I'm supposed to say.

"Hi, I'm the person who makes your Word templates, proofreads and edits your documents, and formats everything to make it pretty for submittal. Any questions?"

#TalesFromTheHomeOffice - I have concluded that I probably know more about Microsoft Word than anyone I've ever met in person, but I definitely know significantly more about Word than anyone with whom I've ever worked.

I may not have business cards (and I wouldn't want a job that requires them!) but now I have a mug with my job title on it, and that's a thousand times cooler.
