@Wander getting them started on a computer is the best decision. Especially getting them started with #Linux at a young and impressionable age.

Start with a #framework laptop DIY kit and help them assemble it. Even help them install their very first Linux distro.... (spoiler: It's going to be #Fedora Workstation.)

I will probably need to play system administrator for awhile till they can get the hang of Linux on their own. Once they are use to it, they can pick their own Distro and DE.

But then they will need to maintain it on their own. Because I won't help them once they go with another distro.

They will receive a #smartphone once they are use to using and maintaining their own system.

But this is if I have kids. Which I probably never will at this point.

If I ever have kids... but then I won't...

If I'm ever allowed to make parenting decisions for a 7 year old, I'll gift them a laptop with Pop OS! waaaay before they're allowed to get a phone.

"Whats that? You want to watch Paw Patrol? Okay, this is called a mouse, you move it here, click and then type..."

curl -X GET "https://youtub....

Just kidding. But I'd teach them to use a computer instead of the tablet that every parent gives their kids these days.

Am I being too presumptuous?

I just think that if kids all have a phone at 8 years these days, an 8 year old could learn to do lots of cool stuff if allowed to tinker with a computer instead or in addition to a phone... maybe I'd award the phone if they learn to unlock the bootloader?

Okay, maybe it's good I won't have human kids.
