Is there a #TunnelTuesday ?
The two tunnels were cut through Precambrian granite in the 1920s to facilitate passage of narrow-gauge logging trains through this section of Guadalupe Canyon. Later the road was built for logging trucks, and in my youth was closed to the public, except for Sundays when it was one-way going south for the public.
The highway is now open both ways and leads to very nice trout fishing waters and scenery, especially as the aspen turn in the fall. Subject to closure due to maintenance.
