The antibiotic, augmentin, according to whatever research has been done, either kills gut bacteria that helps maintain healthy estrogen levels or is an anti-estrogen, which makes hormonal birth control ineffective.

They won't say it, but it seems to also adversely affect HRT.

And augmentin may have similar adverse effects during menopause.

That may lead to trouble.

And there seems to be little, if any, interest in finding out more about it.

Until they do, it is probably a Real Good Idea to avoid augmentin, IMO.

In retrospect (and this is a personal view), we were naive in the Bute House Agreement. ScotGov was never going to put in enough money for the old gatekeeping model to function , given current demand, and the medics were never going to propose radical changes themselves. We should have been much more specific about what was required, and I think that at that time it might have flown, at least with adult services.
