Here's my impression of literally every FreeType or Fontconfig bug report:

"I upgraded and now everything looks bad."

That's it. That's the complete issue. Maybe 1/10 times there's also a screenshot, invariably of a terminal with some weird bitmap console font in it, displaying Perl code.

Just had lunch at a nice, busy place in Midtown NY. When I asked the waiter how his day was going he stared at me gobsmacked and let me know I was the first person in 3 years who had ever asked him that on the job.

Be nice to your service industry folks people. They sure as hell earn it.
