My new book just went on preorder. If you would like practical, biblical and scientific on how any church can be multilingual, you can get it right here:
#multilingualChurch isn't just about providing language access to people who need it. It's about reshaping church to reach, teach and disciple everyone in the surrounding community.
Increasingly, I'm being asked to talk about the mechanics of #multilingualChurch:- how to make services accessible for people who speak different languages.
I'm happy to teach about that. Give me 40 minutes or so and I can show you the main options and talk through the pros and cons of each. I can answer that question in a heartbeat.
The truth is that research over the past 20ish years has repeatedly shown that the mechanics aren't the big issue. The big issue, the one that determines if the mechanics work well, is actually the place of languages in the church.
If languages and #MultiethnicChurch or #MulticulturalChurch are a side issue then the best mechanics in the world won't be enough. If reaching, teaching and discipling people in THEIR languages becomes core to the mission and vision of the church then creaky mechanics can get forgiven and fixed and even less than ideal setups can still be received in love.
Fix the inside and the outside will clean up soon enough.
