The Department of Veterans Affairs is planning an “aggressive” reorganization that includes cutting 80,000 jobs from the sprawling agency that provides health care for millions of veterans. That's according to an internal memo obtained by The Associated Press. The VA’s chief of staff, Christopher Syrek, told top level officials at the agency that it had an objective to cut enough employees to return to 2019 staffing levels of just under 400,000. That would require terminating tens of thousands of employees after the VA expanded under the Biden administration, as well as to cover veterans impacted by burn pits under the 2022 PACT Act.
DEAR LORD! House GOP votes to raise the #DebtCeiling only if the gov't agrees to draconian cuts to #FoodAssistance, #Medicare, #RailSafety (yes, even after all these derailments), and #TheVA.
The bill passed with only 217 (all GOP) votes. 3 Repubs voted No only b/c the bill "doesn't go far ENOUGH", and a 4th opposes raising the Debt Ceiling for ANY reason. #JFC https://www.msnbc.com/alex-wagner-tonight/watch/house-gop-presents-grim-wish-list-with-debt-ceiling-bill-171433029511
