Just got back down from climbing the mast, we noticed a broken spoke in the backstay I made in New Zealand, we took it off and will make a new one next week, but damn, it's weird, clean cut.

Had to Reinvent the Sailing Block (To Replace Them All)

Its cold enough for icicles on the tarp. I don’t think that polyester would cure well … #theBoatYard

Todays tasks: Researching, Planning and preparing ahead so I can work without interruption when the temperatures are back over 15°C.

And well there is this large european boating retailer who had nice guides for their products. Had - because now they are very sloppy and stupid. My trust in them went instantly below zero.

In related news, Volvo Penta's EVC / Multi-Link is just J1939 painted green and instead of spending €400 on a new crappy Volvo instrument you can buy any generic J1939 instrument and get more functionality for about €50 (or €200 from VDO if you're stuck in the past and still think everything from China must be junk).

While removing the tiller for the winter Dev & I found a cut in the backstay wiring....

List of boat to-do's just keeps getting longer.

Every year, thus far, there's an issue with our marine diesel engine that I have to troubleshoot. This year's issue was a raw water pump leak, but not just any kind, water was coming out of the weeping hole, indicating that the pump shaft seal was bad.

Getting the shaft out of the body of the pump was effing hard, I had to borrow tools to do it. After prying it apart, I thought that I could just take the seal out and replace it and that'd be it, but then I saw that the shaft was kinda scarred, and one of the bearings looked like shit >_>... aaaand I somehow broke a circlip and now 1/2 of it is stuck in the body of the pump(improvised a tool to get it out, that was a BAD idea...).

I was not expecting to have to rebuild this damn thing. Never. Effing. Easy.

Anyone in #theBoatyard have experience with macerator pumps? A few weeks ago a short circuit in the switch activated our pump-out pump. It might have run for over an hour, but Y-valve and seacock were both closed, so I think it was running dry. Today, I tried to empty the tank at sea. Pump made pumping noises, but tank level didn't change. Any suggestions?
End of the #sailing season and packing away the sails in #theBoatyard . Very sad that I couldn’t fly the epic spinnaker this season.

@bee Yep, most boat people rely on Facebook. My partner & I are always a bit out of the loop since we too don't use it, and refuse to use apps in general :P.
The only boat-related hashtag i use on Fedi is #theboatyard for boat projects.
Can point you to more boat people, but depends if you strictly prefer houseboat stuff (i know more sailboat/motor boat people).
