I can't help being sad when the " #technologi is difficult " topics pop up, because while true, they often avoid looking at the cause, and rather go after the result.

As a #developer who works fulltime with making stuff, the idea is often that "we do not understand" because "it is easy for us".

Tech isn't the issue. #capitalism is. While we are sold the idea that "giving the freedom of choice, companies will create the best products for their customers" as an explanation why capitalism will create simplicity, the argument is flawed because we are not customers to them.

Their #investors are. Simplicity must yield to vendor lockins. Creating a safe product is less financially logical than selling safety. Closed, addictive algiorithm driven "social media" is more profitiable than a "made for us" product.

"If this is the case, why is #opensource not better?"

Resources. Open source work with a fraction of what the big tech companies do. The fact that open source proucts sometimes come close, is amazing.
