Some of you might know this, but I like musical theatre (🦄 I know). Also, one of my favourite contemporary songwriters is Sufjan Stevens. All of this to say, this song made my week, it almost made me cry.

The original version from the Illinois album was always one of my favourites. A beautiful, metaphorical, and evocative song about a queer kid's first love (at least that's how I have always interpreted it and now that Sufjan is out, it pretty much confirms this reading).

I haven't seen the musical, but it sounds like they are using this song as some kind of climax, which makes sense. It is a beautiful rendition. Enjoy :)
