Thorn of a Honey Locust (I think), planted as a #StreetTree -- this is a N American species in the pea or legume family #Fabaceae. A similar introduced 'thorn tree' is encountered in southern Africa and has a bad rep as invasive, thought it could also be seen as worldmaking. The pea family is formidable and important in #agroecology, has immense powers of foraging, and is third most numerous flowering plant family. These thorns must have evolved to deter species long extinct. #Ecology
