He describes education as a wicked problem as is the interplay of three related problems
- problem of better understanding human learning
- problem of applying our understanding of learning to scaling and sustaining quality education to everyone, equitably
- long-term problem of reimagining and enacting education so it plays a meaningful role in creating a more just society and fostering a sustainable human future. (Bass, 2020).

Randy Bass, Georgetown Uni, opens the #SSOTL2022 conference at Mount Royal tracking the direction from instruction to learning paradigms (Barr and Tagg, 1995). He asks 'is the learning paradigm a system to optimise or an expired story?'

'If our ability to manage the pandemic crisis was rooted in our advance of the learning paradigm, then accelerating and expanding that project is key to our ability to prepare for a complex and perilous future'. #edchatie #heie
