Why no flac download option for the #phish #spectrum97 release? Do I incur the manufacturing and shipping costs - $ and carbon - just to rip the CDs and stash them in a box with all the others I never play anymore? Granted, the set is reasonably priced, but seems wasteful.

Edited: digital downloads are available at livephish.com, duh

this #phish #spectrum97 release is reminding me that my personal favorite show/run opener is, was, and ever shall be Buried Alive.

which is frankly saying a lot for a (usually) 3min bit of musical tension

'THE SPECTRUM '97' BOX SET AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER NOW

We're excited to announce The Spectrum ‘97, an all new 6-CD box set capturing two formative nights of Phish during their Fall Tour ‘97 apex, mixed from the band’s multitracks and mastered. It was was recorded live 12/2-12/3/97 in Philadelphia, PA and celebrates a standout run across 33 songs. It is available now for pre-order at Phish Dry Goods and will be in stores March 15. "Ghost" > "Divided Sky" from 12/2/97 is your official first listen to the new box set and you can check it out here. The box set features a glimpse backstage provided by the "Funky Bitch" soundcheck, which is included at the end of the 12/2/97 show.

December 2nd highlights began with the opener "Buried Alive" > "Down With Disease" > "Makisupa Policeman" and continued with a burning fast "Chalk Dust Torture" and "Ghost" > "Divided Sky". "Ghost" > "Divided Sky" was a one- time pairing with an electro-funk dance party "Ghost" and the only "Divided Sky" of fall tour. Set II opened with "Mike’s Song" > "Simple" > "Dog Faced Boy" > "Ya Mar" > "Weekapaug Groove", in a segment that stretched more than an hour.

The December 3rd show opened with "Punch You In The Eye" > "My Soul" and "Drowned" and closed with a unique combination of "Gumbo" > "2001" > "You Enjoy Myself". The final Spectrum ‘97 set was a non-stop affair with "David Bowie" > "Possum" > "Philly ’97 Jam" > "Prince Caspian" > "Frankenstein", followed by "Harry Hood" and a "Crossroads" encore. Bowie’s intro included references to the venue’s sports mecca status. The "Philly ’97 Jam" that developed out of "Possum" was a standalone jam with siren effects and fight bell, foreshadowing the Dayton Jam out of Tube later that week.

The Spectrum '97 was recorded by Paul Languedoc to multitrack, mixed by Jon Altschiller, and mastered by Fred Kevorkian.
