#SoundMirrors were built across the UK in the 1930s and 1940s. They were designed to pick up sound from great distances and hopefully provide early warning of enemy attacks. The whole project came to an end with the development of the Chain Home radar network. This device is at #Romney in #Kent #photo #photography

I’ve always been fascinated by sound mirrors, aka acoustic mirrors. These large, haunting, concrete lenticular monoliths stud the British coastline. From 1916 thru to the 1930s as a pre-radar early warning system to amplify approaching aircraft engine noise. They look amazing. Future archaeologists will almost certainly conclude they had “ritual significance”. http://www.andrewgrantham.co.uk/soundmirrors/locations/abbots-cliff

Even by #Coldcut standards, this LP is something special. A real treat for the ears. And still sounding as fresh as when it was first released.
