Sovereign computing: Maintaining ultimate authority over (and therefore responsibility for) your compute infrastructure yourself.

Cloud computing: Delegating responsibility for (and therefore ultimate authority over) your compute infrastructure to someone else.

Sovereign cloud computing: Oxymoron. (Or marketing BS, you decide)

#cloud #someoneelsescomputer couldn't tell if this was AWS or Azure

Let this be (yet another repeat of) a warning:

Stop putting your efforts and lives into other people's profit-seeking ventures, lest it close up without you having any say in the matter.

Welcome to the #SelfHosted cloud team, @jibsaramnim.

My experience with #NextCloud has been pretty positive. Speed seems to be a function of the grunt of the host (after all, the cloud is just #SomeoneElsesComputer), and is alleviated by paying for higher bandwidth or more CPU + RAM or faster disks.

turns out it's really hard to just deploy a windows 10 or something desktop to aws. Workspaces needs this whole directory overhead for a single desktop. EC2 can't deploy W10 unless you bring your own image and license. Bloody hell

@mike I'm hearing lots of stuff about this "cloud" thing. Maybe they have machines you can admin?
