Bobby Chiu, long time artist and founder of online art school Schoolism made a video about why this whole AI stuff isn't just an art thing but is going to effect every single job in every single industry, not just creatives.

There was already a lack of lasting outcry from non artists after it was exposed how the Laion dataset didn't only include art but all sorts of stuff people uploaded e.g. on pinterest from vacation photos over medical data to terrorist images showing beheadings or something. Artists were never the only ones affecting, the AI companies were just good at framing these things as exceptions and establishing exploitive filter companies in the global south to cope with this.

However, more and more people in the public try to include AI and robots in all sorts of things and all sorts of jobs, probably including yours, dear reader. (Our former health minister also considered feeding all of Germany's medical data to google and OpenAI for a ton of sugarcoated reasons that were actually pretty harmful or at least pointless.)

And our politicians have no answer to this. A general basic income would be the only thing preventing mass poverty due to AI taking over more and more jobs but heavens forbid to give money to people "for no reason"... But even if we would have one, it still wouldn't account how stripping everything human from all sorts of elements of daily life would impact us as society.

If you think AI will not impact you negatively: Yes it will, and if not you personally, it will affect your children, your friends, your relatives, or their children. (And I'm not even talking about how it fuels the climate crisis and water shortages in some areas.)

Another study I'm doing for schoolism. The point of this exercise is to study value which I think I'm capturing pretty well. Up close like I can see the unrealism but when you actually look at it as a whole it looks pretty good. This may actually take me a week to finish since it requires so much shading. I'm hoping to get it done by Wednesday but no promises. This is going to take so much dark color. I may have to dig out some charcoal after all.

The kimono deer is inspired by the nara deers I met while traveling through Japan some years ago. They can be found all around the Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines around Nara near Osaka.
