A box of Schiit, Etir-2, appeared on the porch. After the unboxing ceremony, DW cabled it up, sorted endpoint names, and played Rhapsody in Bluegrass.

Etir-2 turns the USB audio you’re stuck with into AES3, SPDIF, or TOSlink. The serial bit stream is reclocked and each feed is regenerated from the retimed and the waveform trued up for proper clock recovery in the DAC. Each output receives the source bit stream at the source bit rate.

Mimur is here and singing sweetly. She has that blossoming delta-sigma modulator sound but th transients are also in focus. Giles Martin 2019 Abbey Road is playing from an XLD transfer. Ringo is back in the band. All that small stuff he does is there. Mesh is all about the time domain!

Mimur likely shares Modius line stage. Jason has been quiet about it. But it works. The new filter works super!

DIY Schiit — Roon, RoPieee, and Schiit Unison USB with Raspberry Pi4 let you do high quality streaming on the cheap. RoPieee is a Linux build including Roon, DAC bonnet drivers, streaming bonnet drivers, etc.

But RoPieee works well with a Pi 4 USB output. Pi 4vhas separate controllers and buses for the Ethernet/WiFi and USB. Pi 4vUSB is quiet.

Schiit’s Unisom USB DACs retime and smooth sample delivery to the DAC eliminating hiss and clicks.

Whoa, that was way easier than I could hope for. I have this Modi 2 DAC from Schiit that gave up the ghost some time back. Tried repairing it today, people on the internet say the CM6631 chip inside goes bad. Swapping it out looked doable, but then I noticed some other people on the internet saying that they had luck repairing these by just reflowing the solder with hot air, meaning the fault is just a cracked solder joint or two. So I gave it a bit of flux and turned on the evil hairdryer, and all of a sudden it makes sound again. Sweet! #diy #schiitaudio #soldering #solderfracture #audio
