Years ago I donated to a kickstarter or some similar fundraiser where they wanted to build a wildlife bridge across some highway in LA to allow some cougars or something to move a bit more since apparently they’ve been isolated due to humans for some time. Since then I’ve regularly received emails from them with updates and news about the project and about the cougars and it feels wild that I’ve been sort of following the life of a mountain lion (P-22) across the world. I could have just unsubscribed and stopped receiving the emails, and a few times I thought about it but I just… didn’t? Something about getting updates from something I gave a little money to all those years ago just feels kinda wholesome. They’re now building the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing and while P-22 didn’t get to see it, many other mountain lions hopefully will.

Oh btw they’re accepting donations so if you have anything to spare, it’s a good cause to throw money to: https://savelacougars.org

Might be insignificant in the bigger scale for us but it can change the entire lives of many mountain lions. I’m super happy I played my tiny insignificant part in all of this and I hope this project gets finished.

- Summary: The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing is a project to build the largest wildlife crossing in the world over the 101 freeway in California, aiming to reconnect fragmented natural habitats and improve coexistence with local wildlife. The Annenberg Foundation, National Wildlife Federation, and other partners are involved in the effort, which includes a docent-led tour program and live webcams to monitor construction progress. The crossing is located on the homelands of the Chumash, and the project celebrates their history and culture. Construction is ongoing and donations are welcome through the #SaveLACougars campaign.

It was cheesy but it was fun. Rain Wilson's song was funny. Drank the P22 hazy IPA afterward at Angel City. Overall a good day.
