My idea is to build Eternus, paint him as "standard" Archaon-loyal Varanguard, and then run him as a Chaos Lord on Demonic Mount as the leader of an army.

The lore often mentions a single Varanguard leading an S2D army to go achieve one goal or another.

Here's an oldiah pic of the first unit I painted for many Slaves to Darkness. It mixes old and new sculpt Chaos Warriors. They fit together very well imo (especially with head swaps for the older sculpts).
