A moment's contemplation of Figure 6 shows how to read off the character string code from our #RootedTree by starting at the root, climbing up the left side of the tree till we reach the top, then climbing back down the right side of the tree till we get back to the root, all the while reading off the codes, \(``\texttt{(}"\) for “up” and \(``\texttt{)}"\) for “down”, we happen to encounter in our travels.
