I have quoots (quote posts) turned off by default, as do many people, but if I do quoot I change the setting for that one post to allow quoting, either by followers or by all.

so, am testing the #quoot or #quotepost feature in the app and it’s working.
been using it by opening posts in a browser, so it’s nice that i can do it directly from the #android app. i almost exclusively toot from my tablet these days.
the thing is… this isn’t a quoted post à la Twitter.
all we had to do was to copy & paste a link to the tweet for it to appear embedded with the javascript & html magic of the Oembed protocol.

ℹ️ For users who can't wait for the new :mastodon: Mastodon version 4.5, incl. privacy aware quote posts, we have good news. We will probably upgrade to 4.5.0 release candidate 2 on Sunday or Monday. We expect that RC2 is the same as the stable 4.5.0. See for the Changelog https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.5.0-rc.2. External themes will also be upgraded (after the main upgrade), but we can't guarantee that they will immediately work perfectly. So keep that in mind if you are a Tangerine or Bird UI user. Also some third party (mobile) apps can lack quote posts functionality, but we think most will do. Ask your app developer if it doesn't (yet). If you don't want people quoting you, you can disallow people quoting you (or only non-followers) by going to https://todon.nl/settings/preferences/other and change the setting under 'Who can quote' (this URL will change in 4.5).
