Similar to catalysis in chemistry, here a catalyst is a quantum system that enables state-transitions forbidden by conservation laws or symmetry constraints without changing its marginal state. We show that it must always become correlated to the system of interest or environment - otherwise it's useless. This is in strong contrast to catalysis in entanglement theory.
Covariant catalysis requires correlations and good quantum reference frames degrade little
