America's decision to let the private sector self-regulate #CommercialSurveillance is a grotesque failure of duty on the part of Congress, which has consistently failed to pass comprehensive #PrivacyLegislation. There are lots of reasons for this, but the most important is that American cops and spies are totally reliant on commercial surveillance brokers, and they fight like hell against any privacy legislation:
