Good Idea: Encouraging Positive Reinforcement

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/longing-nostalgia/201705/why-shaming-doesnt-work

Shaming others, whether for their actions or inherent traits, often leads to negative outcomes like social withdrawal, low self-esteem, and even depression. While it may temporarily deter certain behaviors, it can also drive harmful actions into secrecy or worsen psychological distress. Instead of shaming, fostering positive reinforcement and affirming self-worth can guide better behavior and nurture healthier relationships. Rewarding desirable actions is more effective and helps individuals internalize positive attributes.

Why Shaming Doesn't Work

Many people consider shaming an acceptable way of changing behavior. But is it? Research reveals that shame is a complex emotion.

Psychology Today
So in the midst of chemotherapy, everything is a road back into reinforcement of a healthy training relationship with my dog. I will probably be back to more or less regular energy next week but infusion week means I need her brain engaged and no big expectations on me. I'm wobbly and tired. So in order to keep letting her have dog-led walks sniffing on a long line I jack my treat quality up enough to remind her We're Working and then every time she gets to a cross street way ahead of me I work wait, then focus or look and then heel across the street. Do I do this normally? Nah but in my ideal world we'd have a handoff back and forth over who is driving. I want it, I call it. I give it back to her when I'm done she gets to trot a bit further. The fact I'm using the Good Treats reminds her she can potentially earn something worth her trouble by giving me more attention. At home when there's nothing in my tank, I'm making her take a treat off her own flank or doing another stretch, trying to teach her to raise a specific paw (1-4) or give me a giant bow as a stretch. I have extreme limp noodle energy but if her brain is engaged she's good with it. We are patient with each other. Day in day out she's the best company #dogs #dogsOfMastodon #positiveReinforcement #dogConditioning

Kids Can’t Stop Shouting ‘Six Seven’ Here’s What It Really Means

Parents/ Getty Images It feels like we're sinking deeper into a new level of brain rot that has never been seen before. One where kids' speech has been so thoroughly meme-ified that understanding what they are saying nearly requires learning a whole new language. The latest can't-shake-it phrase? "Six-seven." Attempting to explain what this term actually means has proven complicated for even the most seasoned teen slang experts.......Continue reading.... By Annabelle Canela Source: […]

Went to a pet friendly store yesterday to let Sjiriki pick out a toy for his birthday (which I can’t believe is this weekend already!!) and since he seemed up for it we did a little bit of training as well 😊 We’ve not done much in the form of training for quite a while, especially not in public, so we kept things really simple. We practiced the counting game, the ping pong game, a few hand targets, and moving together. He did so good!

Canihiking with the best boy 😊 We’ve recently introduced a new cue for moving to the left side of the trail and he picked it up so fast! I introduced it at the start of a hike, and he pretty much had it down by the end. He’s such a smart baby 🥰

Started doing some muzzle training with Sjiriki yesterday 😊 He picked it up so fast, already pushing his nose in after the first session! I do need to get him a bigger muzzle I think, as this one seems just a bit too narrow around his cheeks. But it’s fine for now as a training prop!
