Sad to hear Pitchfork is being shut down. Before I stopped visiting years ago they were my gateway to a lot of great bands and importantly a lot of great 70s rock that defined my grad school days (David Bowie, Brian Eno, Roxy Music, Iggy Pop).
Basically anything I listened to between 2004 and 2009 was influenced in some way by them, and this is still the core of my music interests. Beyond the obvious hits from that era, Bjork's Homogenic album became a lifelong favorite.
Indie rock seems a lot less self important nowadays but it's also harder for me to find stuff, partially because as an old dude I often prefer to spin old favorites vs branching out ... and music is so much less part of a backdrop to my life nowadays, replaced by podcasts, YouTube, or just silence.
When I do discover new music it's usually through KCMP (Minnesota Public Radio). They tend to play lots of my favorites too. 😄
