Somebody in my life is furious at me because someone told them I bad mouthed them in a conversation I don't recall having.

They said they don't want to see me or talk to me ever again. I'm very saddened by this.

So far, I've tried to call them and left a message saying I'd like to discuss directly instead of e-mail / text. I also said it made me sad and I don't want them out of my life.

I'm at a loss. Any advice on what I should or shouldn't do next?
