FWIW: I made some notes of a few of my observations following my one-day visit of the @oaspa.bsky.social conference this year in Leuven. #OASPA2025 www.linkedin.com/pulse/some-r...

Some reflections on the OASPA conference in Leuven: are we on the verge of a paradigm change?

I was only able to attend one day of the OASPA conference in Leuven, but I’d like to share a few reflections. Throughout the sessions, presentations, and one-on-one conversations, I sometimes sensed a kind of “metal fatigue” settling in.

Hearing the @oaspa.bsky.social outlook and forward thinking of what the next step would be for open scholarly publishing and working in participatory openness I suggest a name change: Open Science Scholarly Publishing Association 😉 #OASPA2025
Engaging and inspiring poster pitch by ACM about their upcoming move towards a 100% flip of their entire portfolio (ACM Open). Main take away: give yourself a public deadline. You will make sure you’ll stick to it. #OASPA2025 @oaspa.bsky.social
I like this: “mandates are not just rules, they are opportunities for equity in open access”, in the @oaspa.bsky.social poster presentation of Vrushali Dandawate from @doaj.bsky.social #OASPA2025
An interesting @oaspa.bsky.social ‘can do’ panel (@juancommander.scholcommlab.ca @theblochian.bsky.social Kate McCready and Lauren Kane) discussing great examples of non-profit initiatives that are focused on community-led approaches, innovative models and considering built-in scaling. #OASPA2025
Woop woop! Great to hear Caroline Edwards' endorsement of strong community-led governance structures for initiatives like Open Journals Collective, including executive powers for the community. Also appreciate the nod to @copim & @openbookcollect as influential examples/models #OASPA2025
Very much appreciate @juancommander's reminder to us, at the start of what promises to be a dynamic post-lunch panel at #OASPA2025 that @PublicKnowledgeProject is, at root, a scholar and research led initiative. The academic system needs to take the work of building community-led, open source/access initiatives much more seriously as a valid and vital form of academic labour

At the @oaspa.bsky.social conference a question was raised to give some clarity on the Secondary Publishing Rights in some EU-member states. Bringing this back to table if it might be of any help: #oaspa2025 zenodo.org/records/3673...
