Also, happy #newhamradio day!

I got a #sbitxv2 in the post today. Unfortunately, the antenna adapter isn't here, so no tinkering tonight. It'll have to wait till tomorrow.

sBitx v2 – HF SIGNALS

Just discovered a nice daily net on 7.212 at 4pm. It has a name that I keep missing, "the DNN Net" (or something). Today's net control was out of Glendale, CA, I think.

I'm curious to track this net for a while to see how humane and welcoming the frequent check-ins are. Will it be a good net for new hams from all backgrounds? Fingers crossed. #newhamradio

@ad6dm Thanks for boosting this. I just read it this morning. It has clear recommendations for diversifying amateur radio on the club level.

We, as a community, should get together and lobby both ARRL and our elected representatives to have the FCC collect demographic data of (new) licensees.

@spatula @W6KME @ampledata Nicklas, I hear what you're saying, and my strategy to combat the gatekeeping you're talking about is to build another gate (that's more of a pathway) and be selective in who from local established clubs has direct and regular access to my community. Until my #newhamradio community gets established, I want to protect it from the "if it was good enough for me, it should be good enough for you" folks. I'm lucky that I have the circumstances that allow for this. Not everybody does.

@spatula @ampledata Playing a "blame game" doesn't help the goal of broaden participation, so I hope there are ways to use the current strengths of the community to the advantage of our goal. If it's a cultural problem, then it's up to those in the culture to change the culture. The changes will probably happen in pockets at first, and then may hopefully spread to other groups.

Every small win will be a Big Win. #newhamradio
